About Jennifer

Jennifer McAllister is an oil painter creating calm, uplifting works inspired by nature, home, and the quiet beauty of everyday life. Working in a soft, semi-abstract style, her paintings balance observation with suggestion — capturing not just what is seen, but what is felt. Subtle colour harmonies, gentle mark-making, and a sensitivity to light create pieces that feel both familiar and quietly evocative, inviting the viewer to pause and look more closely.

Her path to painting was shaped by life experience — from raising a family to navigating change and new beginnings. After being made redundant in her late twenties, she chose to follow a creative path, enrolling on an art foundation course before going on to complete a textile degree. This grounding continues to inform her painterly approach, where surface, texture, and variation in paint application are as important as subject. Influenced by artists such as Bonnard, Fred Cuming, and Joan Eardley, her work embraces expressive marks, atmospheric palettes, and a sense of looseness that leaves room for the viewer’s imagination.

At the heart of her practice is a desire to offer a sense of calm and connection in an often hurried world. Drawing on scenes of nature, domestic life, and familiar surroundings, she creates paintings that feel gentle, life-affirming, and quietly uplifting. Her work resonates with those who seek beauty in simplicity — collectors who value art that brings warmth, ease, and a lasting emotional presence into their homes.
